What is a Sports Therapist?
A Sports Therapist is not that dissimilar to a Physiotherapist in that he/she can treat of the same conditions /injuries as a Physiotherapist. The difference lies in the training, a Physiotherapist trains for 3 years and there is a medical element to their qualification, where as a Sports Therapist trains for 2 years, but has no medical training, although a current First Aid certificate is held.
During our 2 year training we cover the same elements of anatomy & physiology, injury rehabilitation, taping and strapping, Swedish massage, sports massage, remedial massage, biomechanics, nutrition, sports nutrition and remedial exercise.
What is Sports Therapy?
Sports Therapy uses soft tissue manipulation to locate and repair injured areas within the body.
Contrary to popular belief, sports therapy is not just for sports people – the manipulation techniques used have helped ordinary people like you and I, many whom have never played sport.
Governing Body
Like any other professional, Sports Therapists are governed by a professional body.
I am a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and International Council of Health Fitness & Sports Therapists.
